No title. L/S of harbour at Ostend. Sailing boat approaches the camera, another boat passes behind it. The boats have large sails and are probably fishing boats. Closer view of one of the boats as it passes the camera. "And waiting on the quayside, the women of Ostend." M/S of woman walking up steps to quayside with a basket of fish. C/U of an elderly woman in traditional dress. She scowls at the camera. Picturesque shot of many boats in the harbour. CU of people standing on the quayside looking at the camera as the fish are unloaded. Buckets of fish are lifted onto the quayside. "The job of preparing the catch for the market falls to Eve." M/S of group of people, mostly women and young boys waiting for the catch. C/U of women lifting fish from the baskets. Nice shot of two women standing beside a cart laden down with baskets of fish. Bizarrely there is a dog attached to the underneath of the cart who presumably helps to pull it along. Cruel! "Nearby, almost every post has its little group, busy on the nets." Nice shot of group of women and boys making nets. "Nice little job, tying knots around a lot of holes - a job that never ends, for men must fish and women - repair the nets!" M/S of three little girls (probably 8 or 9 years old). One makes a fishing net. The others look grumpy. High angle shot of group of children working together on a net. Low angle shot of group of men, women and children gathered together on the quayside. One girl who is making a net laughs uproariously - presumably about the fact that she is being filmed. Note: flash-frame intertitles. Very nicely shot film. Good stuff of women and children working. Safety print only. FILM ID:1008.14 A VIDEO FROM BRITISH PATHÉ.
