Australian Pilots from Trans Australia Airlines were based in Lae, Madang, Rabaul and Port Moresby. The D.C.3, Fokker Friendship ( F27), Bristol Freighter and Twin Otter were the aircraft which were operated. The excellent skilled pilots included highly decorated Fighter Pilot Aces from World War !! and the Korean War. Weather conditions were challenging, the 'rock filled' clouds were hazardous and some of the airstrips were marginal to say the least. The majority of the younger pilots went on to have commands with International World airlines.
