To be homologated in Europe, vehicles must meet strictly defined criteria in a 50 km/h head-on crash test against a wall. As part of the Junior Certificate Program at the Bern University of Applied Sciences, in the Department of Automotive and Vehicle Technology, an Audi A8 was driven head-on into a concrete block at 120 km/h to demonstrate the fatal consequences of an accident at a massively excessive speed. On the acceleration ramp of the DTC Dynamic Test Center in Vauffelin, the vehicle was accelerated with its own 4.2-liter V8 engine. Due to the force of the impact, the passenger compartment was massively deformed up to the B-pillar, the dashboard and steering wheel were pushed far into the passenger compartment and even the screw connections on the driver and front passenger seats were partially ripped out. In the passenger compartment, various components such as panels, a ventilation motor, blinds, the passenger compartment lighting etc. flew around like projectiles. Looking at the trapped dummy driver, it becomes clear that the chances of survival are close to zero despite the airbag being deployed. The crash test was accompanied by the interdisciplinary work of artist Pierre-Alain Münger (pamcrash). The Audi A8 left its final imprint, the "face", on a canvas on the crash block. From an artistic point of view, it was the next level compared to the previous crashes. The Audi faced its fate under its own power and was not driven by the crash system.
