In this video, I explain the process of learning motor skills and how that is relevant for yoga teachers and practitioners. I discuss sequencing yoga classes for the purpose of maximizing motor skill learning and neuroplasticity. Finally, at the end, I make a few recommendations for yoga teachers planning classes on the basis of published research on motor skill acquisition and neuroplasticity. This lecture is a sample of the content I offer in my Psychology and Neuroscience for Yoga Teachers Workshop. I'm a yoga teacher in Athens, Georgia with a Ph.D. in Psychology. I teach all-levels, vinyasa-style and Rocket yoga, with an emphasis on self-inquiry, exploration, and strength building. My teaching style integrates yoga asana with modern psychological science to cultivate an embodied practice. It is my hope that my students gain perspective on their bodies, minds, and communities through the grounding and strengthening practices of yoga.
