It appears that Aladdin Records made a spelling error on this release because the song subject and lyrics are about Beale Street in Memphis, Tennessee. The misspelling also extends to the copyright registration entry showing the 1951 copyright to belong to Aladdin Music Publications. The song was composed by Benjamin 'Scatman' Crothers and Hal Moffet. 'Scatman', although a recording musician in his own right, is better remembered for his successful acting roles, including the head chef at the Overlook Hotel in the film 'The Shining' and for his recurring role as the garbageman, Louie, on the TV comedy series Chico And The Man. Beal Street On A Saturday Night was recorded by Calvin Boze and His All-Stars and released in February 1951. In the genre of west coast Jump Blues, the song also has similarities in keeping with with the style of Louis Jordan. While listening, it is almost certain that the voice of conversation that pairs with Boze's vocal on 'Beal Street On A Saturday Night' is that of co-composer, Scatman Crothers. Boze's music career was all-too brief. Although he enjoyed the successes of nation-wide touring through the United States and popular residencies in Los Angeles, it was the following year, 1952, that hosted the last of Calvin Boze's recording sessions. His only song that had a brief brush with chart success was 'Safronia B', occurring in 1950. Boze went on to become an elementary school teacher. I recorded this video of my original pressing of this 78 RPM record playing on my turntable to share the experience of playing 78s with those who also enjoy the hobby and history of vinyl records. I do not claim or own, nor imply ownership, of the song or music recording in any way.
