Sources of Irish Traditional Music Seminar Extracts of "From the Sources" seminar at UCC School of Music St Vincents April 14th 2010 - part of Aloys Fleischmann centenary celebrations 2010 - A film by Séamas McSwiney Featuring Micheal O'Suilleabhain, Nicholas Carolan.... Edit #2 of research material for documentary project . Aloys leischmann's magister opus is the 2-volume “Sources of Irish Traditional Music: an annotated catalogue of prints and Manuscripts 1583-1855”. This is a major work of cultural conservation, which presents in musical form almost 7,000 original Irish traditional tunes, some dating back as far as the 16th century. Many others contributed to the task and he had a number of key collaborators, but it was to a large extent a solitary mission, one that began in the 1950s and which was his principal occupation during the 12 years following his retirement from UCC and, quite literally, up to his dying moment in 1992. It is a project that took almost 40 years and was only finally completed and published after his death, thanks notably to Professor Micheal O’Suillabhain, head of the World Music Centre at Limerick University Music: "An Gaoth Aneas (South Wind)" & "Mairséal Ri Laoise (March of the King of Laois)" from "O'Riada a sa Gaiety" Sean O'Riada & Ceoltoiri Chualann (1969) © Gael Linn Shot with pocket camera Lumix TZ7 and inbuilt camera mike Intro and end sequences Gougan Barra, source of the Lee river, and Cork City
