This video is my contribution to this year’s Peace in Concert, a global initiative using music to reflect on peace, human rights, and our shared humanity. The performance features excerpts from a recital I gave on Human Rights Day, 10 December 2024, at St Mary-le-Bow, London. For the Peace in Concert audience, I have chosen four contrasting works from the programme — pieces that, to me, reflect fragility, love, chaos, remembrance, and the complexity of being human. Programme: 🎶 Aaron Holloway-Nahum – Le campane che svaniscono (2012) 02:23 Inspired by the sound of bells fading into the distance, this piece moves through a wide emotional spectrum — from moments of grandeur and majesty to vulnerability and disappearance. It feels like listening to something precious slowly slip away. 🎶 Naomi Pinnock – The shadow of the thing (2022) 09:14 A serene, suspended pause in time. This piece offers stillness and reflection — a quiet moment before everything changes. 🎶 Alex Paxton – Luv ya (2020) 12:09 From serenity into absolute chaos. To me, luv ya is built on an incredibly simple idea — the word “love” — and yet it contains everything: joy, comfort, happiness, pain, sacrifice, despair. All of it colliding at once. It’s messy, overwhelming, and completely alive. Just like life itself. 🎶 Kaija Saariaho – Nocturne (1994) 16:21 Originally written as a standalone piece and later developed into her violin concerto, Nocturne holds a special place here. Kaija Saariaho died in 2023, and this performance is partly a tribute to her extraordinary voice. It is also dedicated to a dear colleague, Laura Samuel, who passed away in November 2024 and whose funeral was taking place during this performance.
