Meira Kumar is an Indian politician who was born March 31, 1945, in Bihar, India. She was the daughter of #jagjivanRam who was the former Prime Minister and prominent Dalit leader, and a mother freedom fighter, Irani devi. She has been elected to the Lok Sabha five times. She was first woman Speaker of Lok Sabha till 2009 to 2014. She also served as a Cabinet Minister in the Ministry of Social justice and nominated as Manmohan Singh led government under 2004 to 2009. #MeiraKumarBiography She completed her schooling in Welham Girls School, Dehradun and Maharani Gayatri Devi Girls' Public school in Jaipur. For a short duration, she studied at Banasthli Vidyapith. She attended her M.A and L.L.B at Indraprastha College and Miranda House, Delhi University. From Banasthali Vidyapith in 2010, she gets an honorary doctorate. #MeiraKumar accompanied the Indian Foreign service in 1973 and perform duties at embassies in Spain, United Kingdom, and Mauritius. She quit IFS job and in 985 joined the electoral politics. She was elected from Bijnor in Uttar Pradesh and defeated two powerful political Dalit leaders like Ram Vilas Paswan and Mayawati. She was a member of the 8th Lok Sabha from Bijnor and from Karol Bagh in Delhi as 11th and 12th Lok Sabha. In 1996, she lost her seat in the BJP. Again in 2004 and 2009, she re-elected with a powerful majority from her father's former constituency of #Sasaram.In the 2014 general election, she lost to Chhedi Paswan from Sasaram. She served her duty in the Congress-led #UPAGovernment as well as the Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment from 2004 to 2009. She was also a member of the cabinet as Union Minister for Water Resources for short duration. She acceded her resignation three days after assuming ministerial office when she nominated for the position of Speaker of Lok Sabha.
