While there are several events across the region which I will mention in the local breakdown today, next weekend we are double-booked for the final two shows of the season with the Northeast Fishing & Hunting Show in Hartford running March 31 – April 2, and the MSBA Sport Fishing Expo in Hanover, MA on Saturday April 1 through Sunday, April 2. Stay tuned next week for our booth numbers and more details. Connecticut • Holdover striped bass and trout in the TMA’s lead the way this week once again thanks to the recent run of weather. Trout stocking trucks are still working their way around the state, and the TMAs remain open for catch and release action until all waters reopen on April 8, a mere 2-plus weeks away. • As I have mentioned before, Rivers End in Old Saybrook will be holding their annual Striper Surf Day this Saturday, March 25, from 10 am to 4 pm. I’ll be doing a seminar on fishing with eels starting just after 10, and Dave Pickering will be discussing the subject of targeting big striped bass and bluefish from shore at 1 PM. There will be ongoing demos from Dennis Zambrotta and Steve McKenna as well as a bunch of tackles reps and tons of great free food for all, so I hope to see you there! Rhode Island • There is promise once again for Rhode Island cod fishermen as the break in the wind this week finally let the boats get back out on the fishing grounds! The cod got about a 2-week break but it’s back on with good catches reported early this week to the low teens. Looking forward the weather looks generally fishable with the exception of Friday into Saturday so keep an eye to the forecast and get on it! Massachusetts • The trout stocking trucks have been steadily moving west into the Pioneer Valley this week. This doesn’t mean the eastern part of the state has been forgotten as lakes all the way onto the Cape also received fish including some nice brookies on Monday and Tuesday. For all my Bay State anglers hitting the water, shoot me some pictures of your trout catches to tlapinski@thefisherman.com as I am still looking for some weekly cover shots for April. • And don’t forget that the annual spring sale at Red Top Sporting Goods continues this week right through Sunday. They have 15% off all in-stock lures, special reel deals where free braid is included with certain purchases, big savings on new rods, buy 2 get 1 free deals on Trokar and Seaguar products and much, much more..
