“The moment is upon us…when the stars must come to realise…the absolute truth of your words. None shall deny me my righteous place in the pantheon of cosmic gods. I claim a seat at the head of the table.”- Thanos, Infinity Gauntlet 1991, Issue No. 1 Ladies and Gentlemen, please give a warm welcome to a villain who by now needs no introduction, but deserves one anyway- Thanos, the Mad Titan! Oh Thanos, my favourite Marvel villain of all time. Whether it’s a love of Death, love of causing Death, love for his long-extinct people or love for his adopted children, love is always at the heart of what Thanos does. It drives him in ways that are so powerful and honest that it truly spoke to me, and for better or for worse, Thanos was one of the things that helped me understand my own feelings of love for the people and things around me. But you know, minus the undertones of mass populicide and willingness to kill them to fulfil some cosmic quota of death. In particular I find Thanos’ struggle for someone he just has no chance with admittedly very relatable, along with how introspective and in touch with his emotions he is. Thanos is nothing if not true to himself and who he really is on the inside, and is unafraid to let that side of him be known, and that’s something I really admire. The other reason I like him so much? He’s just so fuckin’ awesome. I’ve had this tribute posted for a few months now on my Instagram and because I’m a procrastinator I didn’t post him here in the time frame I promised myself, but then I figured, since today, the 31st of October, is Thanos’ 51st anniversary since his first appearance in Invincible Iron Man #55, I figured I’d post him today. By the way, HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Anyway, this tribute to the Mad Titan makes use of the song Painkiller by Three Days Grace. But that’s all, the only thing you can do now is pray Thanos spares you when he snaps his fingers…
