This study aimed to identify ways Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT) could be adapted to better serve Spanish-speaking clients in Europe and the Americas. Based on a qualitative questionnaire answered by 103 therapists from 12 Spanish-speaking countries, the findings revealed that EFT was generally seen as a good fit for these clients due to its emphasis on emotion, attachment theory, and interpersonal relationships, which align with cultural values. However, therapists suggested a few cultural modifications, particularly in how to approach emotional processing with men, translate key EFT terms into Spanish, and navigate the intersection of cultural values like respeto and personalismo. These findings underscore the importance of cultural sensitivity when applying EFT in diverse contexts.
