For the second time in 2021, there was slightly more sunshine and slightly higher temperatures. Meanwhile, the winter is almost over and it was time on a first major hike for the year. This time it should go to the nature park Heuchelberg. The route was 21 km long and lasted for us from about 0930 to 1530 with about 500m elevation gain. We started first in Häfnerhaslach and followed a path through a forest, then along a vineyard in a quite hidden valley, further through a hamlet and again along a much larger vineyard. Then we went back through the forest on the mountain, through the valley of Häfnerhaslach and also there through the woods back again. Overall, the route is rather exhausting from the length. Overall, there are no hiking difficulties except for the length. We had not seen any places to stop anywhere. Now this was probably not only due to the crisis situation, but there was probably really nowhere to eat and drink. In this video, I go on a hike through the vineyards and forests around Häfnerhaslach, a small wine village in the Stromberg-Heuchelberg Nature Park in Baden-Württemberg. Häfnerhaslach lies tucked between rolling vineyard slopes and wooded ridges, making it a perfect place to experience the balance between cultivated wine landscapes and natural forest scenery. The hike begins in the village, where half-timbered houses and narrow streets reflect the rural charm of the region. From the very start, trails lead uphill into the vineyards, opening wide views over the valley and the surrounding Stromberg hills. The vineyard paths are full of atmosphere: rows of vines stretching across the slopes, the light shifting with the seasons, and the sense of walking through a landscape shaped by centuries of winegrowing tradition. The vineyards of Häfnerhaslach are part of one of Baden-Württemberg’s oldest wine regions, known for its steep slopes and high-quality grapes. Hiking here in autumn is especially rewarding, as the vineyards glow golden and red during the harvest season. In spring and summer, the vines are lush and green, with wildflowers often blooming along the path edges. Every season gives the landscape a new face. From the vineyards, the trails lead into the forests of the Stromberg. The change in scenery is immediate—suddenly, the wide open hillsides are replaced by shady beech and oak trees. These woods are calm and cool, offering a peaceful rhythm of hiking. Narrow paths wind across ridges and valleys, sometimes leading to small clearings with surprising views back over the vines. The Stromberg is part of the Stromberg-Heuchelberg Nature Park, which is known for its biodiversity, quiet trails, and varied landscapes. The combination of vineyards and woods is what makes hiking around Häfnerhaslach so enjoyable. It is a constant shift between open views and enclosed forest paths, between human culture and untouched nature. Small details add to the experience: a vineyard hut on the edge of the fields, a wayside cross or chapel, or a pond hidden in the woods. These traces connect the hike to the region’s history and traditions. The views from the higher vineyard slopes are among the highlights. From here, you can see across the Stromberg hills, with the patchwork of fields, meadows, and villages spread out below. On clear days, the horizon stretches far into the Kraichgau and toward the Neckar Valley. These panoramas give a strong sense of space and perspective, showing how Häfnerhaslach lies in the wider landscape of southwestern Germany. The hiking atmosphere is calm and authentic. Häfnerhaslach is not a major tourist destination, so the trails are often quiet, shared mainly with locals. This gives the hike a personal quality, as if you are exploring a landscape at your own pace, without crowds or pressure. It is hiking for enjoyment and discovery, not for rushing. Seasonal changes bring constant variety. Spring offers fresh greens and blossoms in the orchards; summer brings shady forest walks and full vines; autumn is a festival of colour with the harvest season; and winter has its own quiet charm, when bare vines and still forests create a tranquil, almost meditative landscape. This video captures the impression of hiking around Häfnerhaslach: the vineyards, the woods, the small cultural traces, and the views that make this area distinctive. It is not a detailed hiking guide but a look at the atmosphere of the Stromberg-Heuchelberg region, showing why this lesser-known corner of Baden-Württemberg is so rewarding for hikers. For travelers, Häfnerhaslach offers the chance to experience the essence of southern Germany’s wine country combined with the calm of a natural forest landscape. It is a hike full of variety, beauty, and authenticity—an experience that connects nature, culture, and tradition in one walk.
