Four and twenty (24 in plain English!) fabulous footballers at UT today with John My and Burkio sorting out the 4 team, 6 a side tournament including picking the teams as below. John also distributed some printed copies of the 2026 WWFC rules and reiterrated a couple of them, including that there should be little to no physical contact, both on and off the ball. Great idea John and brilliant that the UT Session is looking to maintain and improve adherence to the WF rules.👏👏👏 Teams below with goalscorers noted in brackets: Yellows: Josh P (3), Steve A(1),Dave 'Danger' Marsh (1), Mick B, Glenn T, Bren H. Reds: John My (2), Burkio (1), Phil Bat(1), 'Young Ollie' (1), Dave H(1), Craig O'N(1), Purples: Mark C (2), Graham J(1), Ken J, Sean W, Steve P, Mick W Blues: Noel S (2), Shaun F(1), John A (1), Mark P, Dave L, 'Naughty Gary' W. Congratulations to the unbeaten Reds, winning the session with 7 points. Every player on this team netted at least once. They had Burkio and John My pulling the strings in the middle, feeding a potent 'News International' inspired attack of Craig and 'Young Ollie', together with Dave H and Phil Bat. Yellows were close second with 2 wins. Having Josh P onboard also brought their average age down from 67 to circa 36 which is always a bonus..🤫 but there was nothing average about their play. Josh himself finished leading session scorer and Steve A helped himself to a rare goal, a cool finish at that. Glenn T had a few 'Wizard' moments which Roy Wood would have been proud of with Bren, 'Danger Marsh' and Mick B showing composure on the ball when needed. Blues were third finally getting a win in their last game. Noel S who had scored earlier also finished well in the last game as did John A. Lordy had a toebung or two which went close and Mark P prompted some good movement out of the likes of 'Naughty Gary'. Shaun F was also solid and on the scoresheet in a previous game. Purples finished bottom of the pile, ending up 'Alexander Armstrong' (pointless). 😏. Very unlucky to do so though, as all defeats were narrow and warrant trotting out the 'fine margins' cliche. Sean W, Ken J, Graham J and Steve P kept things tight(ish) at the back/midfield with Mick W and Mark C the main threats up front. The latter was making his debut outfield, scoring a brace including a penalty. His tricky turns were somewhat Cruyff-esque. In fact, some of his 'turns' were nearly as outrageous as a 'turn' seen recently at Alverthorpe WMC ( 'tip of the hat' there to 'Chairman Golly') 😉 👍. POTM today is jointly shared between John My and Burkio. Both on the scoresheet, both played very well and also organised the session brilliantly'. Top job boys. 👍 A good start to the week and well played all. A very respecful session,,not overly physical or quick in the main. Final thanks to Gary L, dedicated Ref and scorer on pitch 4 and anyone else such as Mick W who performed similar duties effectively on the other pitch. If Friday's session is just half as good as today we're in for a treat.
