Zettalane Systems wants to slash cloud storage costs by 70% and deliver bare-metal performance using OpenZFS, object storage backends, and NVMe over Fabrics — all without a single call-home ping. There's a particular kind of founder you meet in enterprise storage — someone who's been building file systems and block devices long enough to carry the scars of every architectural dead-end the industry has explored. Supramani (Sam) Sammandam, founder of Zettalane Systems, is one of those people. With 25 years across software-defined storage, all-flash startups, and scale-out architectures, he's now channeling that accumulated frustration into a cloud-native storage platform that, on paper, sounds almost too good to be true. At a session during the 66th IT Press Tour in Silicon Valley — a gathering of international technology journalists organised by Philippe Nicolas — Sammandam laid out his case. The pitch: cloud storage is overpriced, over-complicated, and architecturally lazy. Most enterprise vendors, he argues, have simply lifted their on-premises stacks into the cloud and called it a day. Zettalane wants to do something fundamentally different. The full video presentation shared with the media attending the 66th IT Press Tour is above, the full article is here: (link to come)
