She said the demand has been raised as students have been protesting for better infrastructure and recognition of the college. Shailabala Women’s College, established in 1913, is one of the oldest women’s educational institutions in Odisha. Firdous alleged that despite continuous protests by students, the concerned minister and departmental officials have not visited the college. She pointed out that the institution is associated with the legacy of Madhu Babu (Madhusudan Das) and urged the Speaker to direct the concerned authorities to take action regarding the demand. According to the MLA, students have been staging protests for nearly 50 days and several intellectuals from Cuttack city have joined the movement, demanding improved infrastructure and recognition for the historic women’s college.
