A sermon preached by the Revd Kyle Mulholland at St Silas' Church, Wolverhampton on the Seventh Sunday after Trinity, 3 August 2025. This sermon is drawn from Mark 14:27-42. In this passage, Jesus' warning that his disciples will desert him, and his prayer in the garden of Gethsemane, are described. This sermon contrasts the self-confidence of Peter with the God-dependence of Jesus (in his human nature), and their different results, and draws out lessons for believers - as well as dwelling on the significance of Christ's victory over his temptation in the garden for those he came to redeem. This sermon is part of an expository series in Mark's Gospel: • The Gospel of Mark St Silas' Church, Wolverhampton is part of the Church of England (Continuing), an association of Bible-based Anglican churches outside the C of E. We are Reformed evangelical in doctrine and use the Authorized (King James) Version of the Bible and the Book of Common Prayer for worship. We are based in the centre of Wolverhampton and gather for worship every Lord's Day at 11am and 4pm.
