In today’s Dead by Daylight discussion, I react to and break down a Reddit post titled “Respect, Playing ‘Nice’, and DBD”, which highlights one of the most divisive and misunderstood aspects of the DBD community: the expectation that Killers should follow an unspoken “rulebook” and play nice. The original post comes from a newer player with competitive gaming experience, and it raises a blunt but important question, why are Killers criticized for doing the very thing their role is designed to do? Dead by Daylight is a horror game where one side’s objective is to kill the other players, yet many Survivors complain about tunneling, camping, pressure, or “mean” Killer behavior as if it violates some moral code. In this video, I explain why I largely agree with the post and why new players often see the DBD community more clearly than long-term players. We talk about how entitlement, expectations carried over from casual play, and community-driven myths have created a fictional Survivor rulebook that Killers are somehow expected to follow, despite it having no basis in game design.
