Colomendy was established in 1939 to house Liverpool children during World War II, serving as a safe haven from potential bombings.Following the war, the site was transferred to Liverpool City Council and became an outdoor education center, offering Liverpool schoolchildren the opportunity to experience the countryside. Initially, Colomendy had two camps: a residential camp for longer-term stays and a visiting camp for shorter trips. In 1969, the Glyn Alyn Secondary Education School was established at Colomendy, becoming the residential school, while the other camps were used for visiting schools.
