Between 25-30% of pregnant women in the United States have their labor induced. This number is much higher than 20 years ago, yet outcomes have not improved. Sometimes there is a valid medical reason to begin labor artificially, but in many instances, the case for induction is based on other factors, and not always in the best interest of the mother and baby. Learn more about inductions in this 3 part series. Here, in part 2, we discuss the various ways a medical induction is performed. We will cover pitocin, cervidil, foley catheter/balloon, and amnionotomy, or breaking the water as methods for delivery. The use of misoprostol, or cytotec, is NOT covered in this video. Chavah strongly discourages the use of this medication for induction of labor until further testing and safety measures can be implemented. Interested in speaking with Chavah?
