I returned to the Cumbrian Coast for my latest railway journey. The village of Parton and the small town of Harrington are located next to the beautiful Solway Firth. The Solway Coast is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and as such is recognised as one of the UK’s finest landscapes. Covering 110km of coastline between Rockcliffe in Scotland and St Bees in England, the Solway Coast is celebrated for its huge beaches, coastal habitats, rich wildlife, and ancient farming landscape. In this video I visited the request stop station at Parton along with its adjacent beach before walking to Harrington where I learnt about the story of the ‘Harrington Hump’ at the station as well as the history of the harbour. These rural stations have a special character of their own and they offer a unique atmosphere and charm for the intrepid railway enthusiast. I hope you enjoy the video.
