The whole thing started at a renowned shop in Dongshan Township, where the kid of a customer accidentally folded a laminated menu, leaving a crease all along the middle. The shop owner asked the parents to pay for the damage, asking for NT$480. The parent paid, but after leaving felt that the price was far too high. They shared the experience online, causing a flood of negative reviews to the shop on Google maps. The owner of the restaurant has since come out to apologize, promising to give back the NT$480. I don’t think a menu would cost NT$500. Shop owner Mr. Lee says the NT$480 price was calculated based on the cost of designing and printing 20 laminated menus, which was NT$9,600. But even then, the negative comments have been unrelenting. Some have left comments complaining that the shop owner was charging customers for his own designs. Other said he should perhaps stop selling duck and start selling menus, as profits would be much higher. A local print shop has also joined the drama, saying that, if Mr. Lee still has the digital file, they can print out a new laminated A3 menu for him for less than NT$100.
