This is the third episode of The Last Days of Summer, as seen from the Highlands of Scotland from the air. Filmed from a variety of platforms, we've attempted to give a flavour of what it's like to fly a light aircraft from an airfield north of the Iso-Postcode Line, where we have to pay extra for everything. We're very privileged to be able to wander about our local area largely free from the usual constraints of Controlled Airspace, Restricted Areas and - let's be honest here - people. The Highlands are largely empty of bipedal inhabitants, which gives us the freedom to travel around at lower altitudes than many can risk. This is a skill that is very useful when the weather closes in, which it can do with frightening speed, but needs constant practice to remain safe, particularly in formation. Obeying the Rules where low flying is concerned isn't as difficult as in more populated parts of the UK, but we still have to be careful. What you see here was filmed from aircraft and, where CAA limits were at risk from being broken, from a drone. This has meant some artistic license has been employed for the benefit of the story...please smile when you spot the "jump cuts". Where necessary the film routes were assessed from the air, at altitude, prior to the photo run to ensure that no-one and no-thing was going to be "violated" by our activity. Produced with CyberLink PowerDirector 16, not the latest software but fun to use and, as before, please forgive any technical glitches. Any mistakes are all down to the Producer (and a fine Claret).
