Alpine A480 LMH (Le Mans Hypercar) Class Car testing at Monza Circuit!

During a recent test I managed to record Alpine's LMH (Le Mans Hypercar) contender in action around Monza Circuit. The car, called Alpine A480, is a re-badged Rebellion R13 LMP1 car which has been granted a place in these two World Endurance Championship seasons thanks to an agreement in the LMH-class rules to re-homologate non-hybrid LMP1 cars (also nicknamed "grandfather"). Honestly it was a real pleasure to see again this car testing at the Italian track, but it was also quite disappointing to notice how heavy and slowed down it is compared to when the R13 was racing in LMP1 some years ago. This drop in performance was necessary since the initial LMH rules targeted a significantly lower performance than 2020 LMP1s, adding around ten seconds to a lap of Le Mans. To reach the class omologation the Rebell... sorry, Alpine, was forced to use a single aero kit for the whole season and be part of the new Hypercar class Balance of Performance (BoP) system to ensure parity between entrants in the class. This last change is for sure the one that has had the greatest impact on both performance and difficulty in homologation, because originally it wasn't designed for a BoP ruleset.
