The Book of Ephesians: Identity In Christ Speaker: Deacon Dale Tubbs Verses: Ephesians 6:10-24 Theme: The Lord enables the believer to withstand Satan's assaults and live victoriously. In This Lesson: In this lesson, we’ll explore the world of spiritual warfare and how God empowers believers to fight back against Satan’s attacks and emerge victorious. At the heart of it all is Paul’s advice to equip ourselves with the full armor of God, each piece representing a defense and an offense: the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the sandals of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit. We’ll also talk about the importance of supporting each other through prayer and give a quick rundown of the circumstances that led to Paul writing the letter to the Ephesians. Study Overview: Identity politics is a hot topic right now, and it’s important to understand what it means. Identity politics is about dividing people based on their race, religion, or gender, and using that division to gain political power. Some people are even choosing to identify as neither man nor woman or as both. This can be confusing, frustrating, and even angry for those who don’t fit into these categories. Paul lived in a similar time, and he wrote a letter to the church in Ephesus about this very issue. Ephesus was a city that was divided by all sorts of things, and the church needed Paul’s help to understand God’s truth. Paul’s main message in the letter is that all believers are part of the same body, the body of Christ. Christ gives us our identity and brings us together as one. Paul encouraged the Ephesians to recognize their unity and to serve God together. When they did, their love would shine a light into the darkness and confusion of the world around them. Paul also warned that shining light into the darkness would anger Satan. He told the Ephesian believers to put on their armor of God and carry their sword to protect themselves from Satan’s attacks. Paul’s letter is a guide to embracing our true identity in Christ, the only identity that brings joy, peace, and contentment. We encourage you to read Ephesians with this Lesson and discuss the message of Paul’s letter with others. Let’s learn to live “in Christ” and spread love and light to the world around us.
