As the world continues to progress toward CO2-neutral production of electricity there is also a push toward removing carbon emissions from other industrial sectors. The use of nuclear energy for this purpose has previously been complicated by the sheer size and cost of such facilities, however with SMRs, this is becoming less of an issue. Companies who desire to reduce their emissions can elect to produce their own energy in an off-grid setting as the production is on the same scale as their demand with SMRs that can vary from 5MW to 300 MW. This possibility of off-grid operation also enables placing such facilities in energy-starved parts of the world where in many cases the only alternative power source is diesel generators. Utilizing new and innovative reactor technologies can also widen the scope of application as higher temperatures can be achieved and used for industrial heat purposes. This allows for example direct (thermochemical) production of H2 without application of electrolysis which significantly increases the efficiency of the process, something which is highly desired in the projected upcoming hydrogen economy. In this webinar we explore the possibilities and developments in this field as well as provides a future outlook for the deployment of nuclear outside electricity production. The webinar would be of interest to industry representatives outside of nuclear power as anyone inside it would already be familiar with the contents of it.
