This video illustrates how funding from Social Inclusion and Community Activation Programme (SICAP) has helped with the setting up and expansion of Kerry Social Farming, a social inclusion project founded in 2013 by South Kerry Development Partnership CLG (SKDP). SICAP is funded by the Irish Government through the Department of Rural and Community Development and co-funded by the European Social Fund under the Programme for Employability, Inclusion and Learning (PEIL) 2014-2020. SICAP aims to tackle poverty, social exclusion and long-term unemployment through local engagement and partnership between disadvantaged individuals, community organisations and public sector agencies. Kerry Social Farming is an example of a project which receives support from SICAP. This project sought to innovatively target both an increasingly marginalised farming community within Kerry, as well as including participants i.e. people with a range of disabilities, in the real life of their own local communities, rather than having them simply accessing a community care service. These two ideals have been to the forefront of the project as it has evolved. Kerry Social Farming operates under the legal umbrella of SKDP and continues to expand, so it now has host farms all across Kerry, in conjunction with North, East & West Kerry Development (NEWKD) which has responsibility for SICAP funding across that region of the county. This film shows a variety of social farming activities on farms across the county, with participants and host farmers going about their daily tasks and engaging with the wider community , thus promoting social inclusion in a real and meaningful way. This film includes contributions from: Joseph McCrohan – SKDP Rural Development, TÚS, Rural Social Scheme Manager. Moira Murrell, CEO Kerry County Council. Jacquelyne Murray, Kerry Parents and Friends Association. Noel Spillane CEO SKDP. George Kelly-Chair of Kerry Social Farming Working Group and host farmer. Dave Fitzgibbon- (NEWKD).
