This tank entered service in 1972, and it incorporated a lot of the technologies from the Soviet T-62. The PLA captured a T-62 from the Soviets in 1969, and they managed to reverse engineer it. The Type 69 was developed from the T-62, but it looks a lot like the T-54, or the Type 59. The first Type 69s had night vision equipment copied from the Soviet Luna IR search light system, and a 2 plane stabilizer. Later when Deng Xiaoping opened up China in 1979, the Type 69 got upgrades, like a modern FCS(Fire control system), like a laser rangefinder, and ballistic computer. Those were the modern features incorporated in the Type 69. The Type 69 didn't use the T-62's 115mm smooth bore cannon, it uses a 100mm smooth bore cannon. This 100mm cannon is different from the 100mm rifled D-10 cannon used on the Type 59 which is based on the T-54. The Type 59 had a rifled 100mm cannon, while the Type 69 used a smooth bore 100mm cannon capable of firing APFSDS rounds. This tank received many upgrades in the 1980s, like getting better cannon, like the Royal Ordinance L7A3 105mm cannon, and a British Marconi FCS(Fire Control System). The Type 69-IIG, and Type 79 had the L7A3 105mm cannon. The Type 69 IIG is a premium tank, and you can buy it for about 9000 gold eagles. The Type 69 was a very successful export main battle tank for China, and about 3,000 to 4,000 of them were exported to other countries starting in the early 1980s. Iraq was the biggest customer for the Type 69 MBT, and they imported about 2,800 of them. Iran bought about 200 to 250 Type 69s. These tanks did see a lot of action in the Iran-Iraq War (September 1980 to August 1988). Pakistan bought about 400 of them in the form of the Type 69 IIMP. These tanks were inexpensive compared to Soviet or Western MBTs. This tank has 2 main shells. Shell Penetration @ 10 meters Type-83 Heat 400 mm Type-83 APDS 352 mm It comes with the Type-83 APDS shells, and the tank can store 44 shells. It takes about 9.7 seconds/round to load a shell in the main gun, but with aced crews the reload speed is 7.5 seconds/round. There is no automatic loader in this tank, all the shells are loaded manually. This tank has a crew size of 4 people, the driver, loader, gunner, and commander. The Type-69 IIG has a faster turret traverse speed of 37.6°/second, or it can traver 360° in 9.57 seconds. The Type 69 has a turret rotation speed of 28.2°/s(12.76 seconds to traverse 360°), and the ZTZ 59D1 has a turret rotation speed of 18.8°/s (19.14 seconds to traverse 360°). The only thing I don't like about this tank is the slow reload speed. Other than that, it has a very good main gun for tier 9 MBT, a two axis stabilizer, a good traverse speed, good speed, and good armor protection.
