The Bible contains only one story about the childhood of Jesus. It is tempting to get distracted by this, bemoan what we don't have, and wish we knew something more of the exploits of the boy Jesus. As great as that would be, what we should be focused on is the lesson taught by the one story we have. Here is what we learn about the twelve-year-old Jesus from Luke 2, verses 46-47: ..."they found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. 47 Everyone who heard him was amazed at his understanding and his answers." How well did you know the scriptures when you were twelve years old? Jesus knew them well enough to amaze the teachers in the temple courts. Is that because he had a bigger brain than any of us? No. He was a normal human being with a normal human brain - just like yours or mine. If that wasn't so, then the incarnation would have been a sham. But, if his brain was just a normal human brain, why don't the rest of us know the scriptures as well as he did by the age of twelve? It is because we don't spend our time studying the scriptures or listening to God as well as he did. Life is a series of choices. The choices our parents make for us early in our lives and the choices we make for ourselves as we mature combine to make us the person we are as an adult. Make the most of your daily choices. Study the scriptures every day. This is another episode in the series entitled, "The Life of Christ." Join father and son, Timothy and Caleb, while they explore the life of the most talked about person in human history, Jesus Christ.
