If an angel appeared to you with a message from God, would you believe it? While you ponder this question, consider the reactions of the two people to whom God sent the angel Gabriel in the Gospel of Luke. The first was a faithful priest named Zechariah. The message he received was that he would have a son in his old age. This was good news that he wanted to believe, but his response in Luke 1, verse 18, exposed his doubts: “How can I be sure of this? I am an old man and my wife is well along in years.” The second was a faithful young woman named Mary, who was a virgin and engaged to be married. She was told that she would conceive and bear the son of God. This message was incomprehensible to her. If she didn't understand it, how could she possibly explain the pregnancy to her family, her friends and her betrothed? Yet her ultimate response in Luke 1, verse 38, was this amazing statement of faith: “I am the Lord’s servant...May your word to me be fulfilled.” This gets us back around to our original question. Would you believe a message from God, if he sent one to you? It isn't a hypothetical question. We have the Bible, which is God's word to you and all mankind. Spoiler alert! It's good news! Like Zechariah and Mary, we have received a message of hope. The question is whether we will believe it, or not. This is another episode in the series entitled, "The Life of Christ." Join father and son, Timothy and Caleb, while they explore the life of the most talked about person in human history, Jesus Christ.
