MP40 & SP15, the Schmeissers that Hugo Schmeisser did not design

Although both of these guns are commonly known as 'Schmeissers', neither of them has anything to do with Hugo Schmeisser. The MP40 (Maschinenpistole 40) submachine gun was degined by Heinrich Vollmer and Berthold Geipel at the Erfurter Maschinenfabrik Geipel (a.k.a. ErMa). The MP40 that is presented in this video is an early gun made by ERMA in 1941 and, accordingly, it exhibits numerous characteristics of early MP40 production. As ownership of fully automatic firearms is strictly forbidden in France (as far as law-abiding citizens are concerned, only!), this one is of course a deactivated gun. The AR-15 type SP15 straight-pull repeating rifle was made by Schmeisser, but, apart from their name, Schmeisser GmbH Germany have nothing to do whatsoever with Hugo Schmeisser. What do those two guns have in common, then? Well, both were made in Germany. Many German soldiers joined the French Foreign Legion after WW2. Some of them fought in Indochina with the very same weapons they had used in the German Army. Not only did they fight with German weapons, but they also carried over their former marching songs into the French Foreign Legion, once their lyrics had been translated into French.
