Dealing with Depression

This is the third video in our Indigenous Mental Health series, as voiced by Jasmine Peterson, a Psychologist Associate at Sullivan + Associates Clinical Psychology and a woman of Indigenous descent. In this video, there will be a discussion about how intergenerational trauma can contribute to the experience of depression in Indigenous peoples and communities. Data collected for the First Nations Regional Longitudinal Health Survey found that 25.7% of Indigenous men and 34.5% of Indigenous women living on reserve reported feeling sad or depressed. In comparison, 13.2% of Indigenous people living off-reserve reported feeling sad or depressed for extended periods. Depression is a significant mental health issue for Indigenous people, whether they live on or off a reservation. Today’s video will focus on providing important Information about depression and strategies to help manage it.
