Olympic Gold Medalist Amanda Elmore shares the ups and downs that led to success for the USA Women's Rowing team at the 2016 Olympics. Through her journey, she discovered a good leader isn't always the most outspoken or skilled. After a change in mindset, she describes learning the difficult and valuable ability to follow. Amanda Elmore is a 2016 Olympic Gold Medalist rower. Growing up in Indiana as a gymnast and high school valedictorian, she had no idea of her Olympic future. While working on her Bachelors in Biology, she walked onto the Purdue University Crew club in 2009. During college, she won two gold medals in the Under 23 Women's 8+ in 2012 and 2013. In 2014 she put her graduate work at the University of Michigan on hold when she accepted an invitation to train on the National Team in Princeton, NJ. Her sacrifice paid off when she made the 2016 Olympic team and won Gold in Rio. After the Olympics, she completed her Masters in Microbiology & Immunology and returned to training at the Princeton Training Center for the 2020 Olympics.
