CSPM Seminar: The past and future of the imaginative brain – Professor Donna Rose Addis

Professor Donna Rose Addis (University of Toronto) examines the human brain’s capacity to move between the remembered past and the imagined future. Drawing on cognitive neuroscience and philosophy, the seminar explores how episodic memory has been reconceptualised as fundamentally future-oriented. The seminar argues that remembering and imagining are not distinct neurocognitive processes, but instantiations of a single process—constructive episodic simulation—and that differences between past and future thinking arise primarily from differences in representational content.
