Franciszek ZWIĄZEK z jego orkiestrą (The Crazy Kiddies) – Siboney (Lecuona-Dorian) Rumba (nowy taniec kubański) z Refrenem (Tadeusz Faliszewski) Syrena-Electro 1930 (Polish) NOTE: : Franciszek Związek (born 1898 near Katowice, Upper Silesia, Poland - died 1976) was a Polish trumpeter and bandleader. He completed his musical education in 1916 and in 1919 got his first job in the orchestra of the Municipal Theatre in Katowice. He then worked in the theatre orchestras of the operas in Katowice and Gliwice before moving to Berlin, where he played in German dance bands until 1930. He returned to Katowice, where he founded - together with his friend Jan Ławrusiewicz (guitarist, banjoist and vibraphonist) - his own dance band, The Crazy Kiddies. They promoted white jazz rhythms mainly for the younger generation of Poles and called themselves the "Polish-Chicago jazz orchestra". They were hired to play in the nightclubs "Esplanada" in Krakow and "Moulin Rouge" in Katowice, and during the ski season they also performed in the Zakopane ski resort in the fashionable restaurants "Trzaska" and "Morskie Oko". In 1932 the Crazy Kiddies were contracted in Warsaw to perform at Polonia Palace Hotel, but Jan Ławrusiewicz soon received an offer of permanent work at Syrena Records to play Hawaiian guitar, and the Crazy Kiddies disbanded the same year. Within two years of their activity the orchestra gained a significant position among many Polish dance bands of the early 1930s. Its repertoire included many world dance hits of the time in sometimes eccentric arrangements with instrumental interjections of humor. In his memoirs Franciszek Związek complains about the reluctance of record companies to release jazz records in Poland. The tycoons of the Polish record industry at that time were Henryk Gold (Columbia), Henryk Wars (Syrena-Electro) and Jerzy Gert (Odeon). Although they were jazz pioneers themselves, they were not keen to help younger jazz fans, as if they were defending their own dominant position. That is why Crazy Kiddies managed to record only a few sides during their short existence. The outstanding Polish jazz trumpeter Ady Rosner, highly regarded by Louis Armstrong and having released many records in Berlin and Paris, recorded only two or three sides in Poland for Syrena Electro.
