Cztery nogi (Four Legs) Slowfoks z f-mu "Co mój mąż robi w nocy?" (Slowfox from the film „What My Husband Does At Nights?") (Muz. Jerzy Petersburski /Tekst: Emanuel Schlechter) Jan Pobóg (Tadeusz Faliszewski), Melodja-Electro 1934 (Poland) NOTE: This lovely tune - a real evergreen - was composed by great Jerzy Petersburski for the musical comedy of 1934 What My Husband Does At Nights? (Co mój mąż robi w nocy?). That comedy of mistakes one of comedy classics in Polish film history is a story about the bankrupting businesmann (Michał Znicz) who in purpose to maintain the high living standard of his and of his lovely wife's (Maria Gorczyńska) takes extra job in a fashionable night restaurant "Alhambra". • Video Michał Znicz was one of the best pre-war dramatic and comedy actors in Poland. His somewhat sad face added a drop of a noble melancholy to his roles and evoked in the public both the laughter and sympathy. His death in the nazi ghetto in Warsaw in ca 1943, added a tragic end to his very scuccessful artistic life. Two other excellent actors in this movie were Maria Gorczyńska, who managed to continue her career after 1945, and Tola Mankiewiczówna (performing a Servant Gir) who in the movie in a scene of the kitchen party performs together with her boyfriend and her master the title drunkard -song If I Had Four Legs (Gdybym ja miał cztery nogi...). • Michał Znicz - Cztery nogi After 1945, Tola Mankiewiczówna, was less lucky: as actress who, before 1939, performed mostly the upper class types from "a burgeous society", she was not given any chance to continue her career in a communist Poland. She ended as a lower clerk in a post office in Warsaw.
