Amdahl’s Law: The Irony of Diminishing Returns

Amdahl’s law was created in 1967 to steer us away from parallel processing. But ironically it is now used for the opposite reason: to help get more performance out of parallel processing in applications like Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. To keep the video simple, and to minimize jargon, we explain how Amdahl’s law works through the task of moving boxes from a factory to a store across town. In the follow-on episode, we will describe how parallelism and Amdahl’s Law are used to accelerate Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning workloads.
