IWCB plays Aladdin, Arranged by John Moss Disney’s Aladdin (1992) is loosely based on a story from the famous collection of Middle Eastern folk tales, One Thousand and One Nights. Part of the “Disney Renaissance” of the 1990s, the film features a non-stop score of witty and emotive songs by hitmaker Alan Menken. The opening number of this medley, “Arabian Nights”, sets the scene. “One Jump Ahead” introduces our street urchin protagonist as he ducks and weaves on the run from the palace guards. Aladdin and Princess Jasmine’s love song, “A Whole New World”, won the Grammy award for Song Of The Year, the only Disney song to do so. “Prince Ali” follows Aladdin as gains the attention of Princess Jasmine by any means possible… including with the help of the magical Genie, who reminds Aladdin he ain’t never had a “Friend Like Me”.
