Tackling Homelessness: Cleanup Effort Ongoing at Venice Fishing Pier

Venice Beach Fishing Pier, Los Angeles - October 13, 2023 - In an ongoing effort to address homelessness at Venice Beach's fishing pier, the City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works, Recreation and Parks, and Action Cleanup Environmental Services have united to conduct a cleanup operation. Workers were equipped with hazardous materials attire to prioritize safety. Councilwoman Traci Park's office has appointed a Homelessness and Housing Coordinator to streamline coordination among the multiple city departments involved in managing homeless encampments. Three specialized waste management teams worked in concert to sort and manage refuse, including hazardous materials. LAHSA provided outreach assistance on-site. The presence of Los Angeles Park Rangers and Police Officers ensured safety and compliance throughout the operation. Remarkably, despite the enforcement of Ordinance 41.18, which prohibits activities such as sitting, lying, sleeping in public places, and storing personal property in the public right-of-way, no citations were issued.
