On September 18, 2024, an Atlanta Police Zone 6 Officer encountered a vehicle in the Edgewood Club District and attempted to pull it over for no tag lights. The vehicle continued driving at a slow rate until it reached the intersection of Hilliard St NE and Old Wheat St NE. Once the officer contacted the driver, he observed suspected marijuana in plain view. Additional units arrived and detained all three occupants that were inside. The back seat passenger was identified as 31-year-old Cortuavis Wallace. Mr. Wallace was in possession of a black bookbag that contained two stolen firearms, suspected cocaine, suspected marijuana, scales, magazines, and plastic baggies. Through further investigation, it was confirmed that Mr. Wallace is a convicted felon who was wanted by the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office for failure to appear on possession of a firearm by a convicted felon charge, two counts of aggravated assault, and reckless conduct. He was also wanted out of the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office for larceny from a building. The front passenger was identified as 27-year-old Kevin Wood, who also had a firearm in his possession as well as suspected marijuana. Mr. Wallace was charged with the following: -Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon -Possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony -Possession of Cocaine -Possession/Sale/ Etc. of Marijuana -Theft by Receiving Stolen Property Mr. Woods was charged with the following: -Possession of a controlled Substance -Possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony Both males were transported to the Fulton County Jail. An arrest does not mean that the individual(s) have been or will be convicted of a crime. All individuals mentioned are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
