Time to go through the new DLC Mega Evolutions, and I have decided to go with Mega Raichu to start it off. It has two different Mega-Evolved forms, Mega Raichu X and Mega Raichu Y, and while this was the first new Mega-Evolved Pokémon to be introduced for the DLC, in order to obtain Raichunite X and Raichunite Y, you need to have completed certain side missions in order to get them. You can find Pichu in Wild Zone 1, and Pikachu in Wild Zone 3, and for moves as Alpha Pokémon, Pichu has Swift, Pikachu has Iron Tail, and Raichu has Play Rough. As for the forms, I prefer Mega Raichu X, both forms do resemble Pikachu in some way Mega Raichu X has an identical colour scheme to Pikachu, and its two tails resemble Pikachu's, while Mega Raichu Y has a close resemblance to Raichu, and it has Pikachu's ears as well. As for stats, Mega Raichu X gains 50 Attack, giving it 135 Attack, and it has base 95 for both Defense and Special Attack, its Defense is boosted by 45, and its Special Defense is boosted by 10, it loses 5 points of Special Attack and its Speed does not change. Mega Raichu X has the same Attack stat as top threats like Salamence, Excadrill, Sirfetch'd, and a few others. Then for Mega Raichu Y, this one has a massive buff to its Special Attack and Speed, its Special Attack is 160, boosted by 70, and it gains 20 more Speed to give it base 130, it gains 15 more Attack to give it base 100, it trades 5 points of Special Defense to go into Defense, giving it 55 for Defense and 80 for Special Defense. Mega Raichu Y has the same Speed as Jolteon, Crobat, Mewtwo, and Mega Gengar, and its Special Attack is even higher than Mewtwo's Special Attack, and is the same as Mega Latios. Going over moves, Raichu has Thunderbolt for special sets, good for Mega Raichu Y, while Mega Raichu X has Thunder Punch and Volt Tackle. For other moves, it can get Draining Kiss, Nuzzle, Thunder, Brick Break, Play Rough, Dig, Body Slam, Volt Switch, Surf, Iron Tail, Dazzling Gleam, Focus Blast, Trailblaze, Magnet Bomb, Drain Punch, Fake Out, and a few other attacks. For moves, Mega Raichu X does get an Attack boost when it uses Volt Tackle, which it learns at Level 99, and as it is a physical attacker that does get a boost to its defensive stats, its HP remains low, so it has to watch out for Ground-type attacks. For coverage, it has Play Rough, Dig, Drain Punch, Iron Tail, and Trailblaze for options. Then for Mega Raichu Y, it can boost its Special Attack with Nasty Plot to hit hard with Thunderbolt, Surf, and Dazzling Gleam. It does get some status options like Reflect, Light Screen, Eerie Impulse, Charm, and Thunder Wave. I did read somewhere that the Mega Raichu forms have higher power than a Pikachu holding a Light Ball, and from looking at their Level 100 stats, a Pikachu with an Attack boosting Nature can hit up to 458 Attack, that is still higher than Mega Raichu X's Attack, which the maximum at Level 100 is 405, the downside is that Pikachu cannot take a hit, while Mega Raichu X has better defensive stats, the low HP is a disadvantage to it. Then for Mega Raichu Y, at Level 100 and with a Special Attack boosting Nature, the maximum Special Attack is 460, while a Pikachu holding a Light Ball has 436, so Mega Raichu Y has higher Special Attack than Pikachu when it is holding a Light Ball. As for Pokémon Champions, while looking into moves, Raichu does get Alluring Voice and Grass Knot in the main series games, and those work very well with Mega Raichu Y. As for how they will work, Mega Raichu X would be more well-rounded, and it has a good Speed tier, and Mega Raichu Y can end up being one of the best special Electric-type attackers, but it depends on what Ability they end up getting. For Mega Raichu X, due to it getting an Attack boost when it uses Volt Tackle, my prediction for the Ability would be Moxie, as this boosts its Attack stat for each opponent it defeats, this can make Mega Raichu X sweep teams after enough Attack boosts. For Mega Raichu Y, my prediction is Electric Surge, while this would make it very overpowered, specially with Rising Voltage which it can learn in Pokémon Sword & Shield, as this Pokémon does have higher Special Attack than Miraidon, the difference is Mega Raichu Y doesn't have the best defensive stats, it is very frail on the physical side. We do need a viable Pokémon with Electric Surge as the only non-Legendary Pokémon that has that Ability Pincurchin, which is kind of below average for a Pokémon, and I don't know if Tapu Koko will be included in Pokémon Champions. I wouldn't mind if Mega Raichu Y kept Lightning Rod, as it can switch into an Electric-type move and sweep its opponents after a Special Attack boost.
