Psalms – From Lip Service to Lifestyle The Psalms are more than songs—they’re cries for justice, glimpses of Christ, and lessons in worship. But not everything applies the same way today. Jesus fulfilled the temple, transformed vengeance into mercy, and turned worship into a lifestyle. The early Church read the Psalms through the Septuagint, seeing Jesus on every page. We must do the same—reading with context, guided by the Spirit, letting the Psalms shape not just our lips, but our lives. The Psalms are more than ancient hymns. They’re raw, honest, and often prophetic. This week, we explored how the Psalms connect us to every part of the human experience—but also how we must read them through the lens of Jesus. 📖 What We Covered: The Psalms teach us how to pray, weep, rejoice, and worship—but not all Psalms apply the same way today. Some Psalms call for vengeance and violence. Others speak of temple worship and animal sacrifice. But Jesus came and fulfilled the law—He became the temple (John 2), replaced vengeance with mercy (Matthew 5), and transformed worship from a location into a lifestyle (Romans 12). 🕍 No More Temple Worship? Yes—God destroyed the temple (Jeremiah 7, 26; Ezekiel 10). The New Testament confirms that Jesus Himself is the final temple (John 2:19–21), and now we are the temple (1 Corinthians 3:16). Worship is no longer about a building—it’s about a life surrendered. 📜 How the Early Church Read the Psalms: The early Church read the Septuagint (Greek OT), not the later Masoretic Text. Many of the Psalms quoted in the New Testament match the LXX, not the Hebrew MT. Major Messianic prophecies (Psalm 22, 69, 110) are preserved in the LXX and directly applied to Jesus. 💡 Takeaways: Read the Psalms with discernment—some were fulfilled by Christ, others still shape our spiritual life today. Worship isn’t just singing. It’s obedience, sacrifice, and daily surrender (Romans 12:1). From lip service to lifestyle—this is the call of a believer shaped by the Psalms and transformed by Christ.
