If you're looking for an immersive Sonoran Desert experience, camp in it. We're back at it and today we stayed in the Willow Canyon Campground at White Tank Mountains Regional Park. We give an in-depth review of our campsite, walk around the campground to check out some of the different campsites, and explore some of the amenities. White Tank Mountain Regional Park is located in Maricopa County west of the city of Phoenix. There is no better place to get views of the classic Sonoran Desert with its saguaro cacti and desert plants. Activities at White Tank Mountain Regional Park include hiking and biking on many of the shared-use trails, horseback riding, picnicking, and camping. Due to the location of the campground, services and medical facilities are not far away. When we visited we were given a sheet of paper detailing local services which was helpful and a nice touch! Willow Canyon Campground is a new campground at White Tank Mountain Regional Park as of November 2019. The campgrounds are mainly designed with tent campers in mind. There are 4 vehicle pull-through sites, 5 back-in sites, and 11 walk-in sites. Each campsite includes a 12 ft x 12 ft raised level tent pad, a picnic table, and a fire ring with a BBQ grate. Several sites have shaded brick ramadas and a few sites have metal poles with hooks for hammocks. There are two ADA campsites located central to the campground. Also central to the campground are the bathrooms, a shower house with free showers for guests, and a dishwashing station with hot water. All amenities were new and extremely clean at the time of our visit. Willow Canyon Campground closes during the summer months from May 1 through September 30. The Family Campground in White Tank Regional Park is open during this time.
