Sun Salutations are often taught as a fixed sequence with a fixed breath. And that’s where many practices lose their therapeutic power. In this video, we explore different variations of Sun Salutations by changing the breath, and how breath direction—not speed or intensity—shapes the energetic and nervous system effects of the practice. From a yoga therapy perspective, Surya Namaskar is not one practice, but many. By adjusting the inhale, exhale, and pacing, Sun Salutations can be used to: • Energize or calm the nervous system • Support digestion, elimination, or circulation • Balance prana and the vayus • Meet different bodies, seasons, and life stages • Move beyond “flow” into conscious, breath-led practice This approach comes from traditional yoga therapy teachings, where breath (pranayama) leads movement, not the other way around. ✨ This video is especially helpful for: • Yoga teachers who feel stuck teaching the same Sun Salute • Practitioners who feel overstimulated by fast vinyasa • Wellness professionals exploring therapeutic yoga • Anyone curious about yoga beyond physical choreography This is a complementary wellness practice, not a substitute for medical care. If you’d like to explore yoga therapy more deeply, I also offer: • 1-on-1 personalized sessions • Small group workshops • Teacher trainings rooted in traditional yoga therapy Practice gently. Let the breath guide the shape.
