The University of Washington has made a long-term strategic investment in Tableau reporting and analytics, with UW Advancement among the first major campus partners in that initiative. In collaboration with UW Central IT and Tableau consultants, the Advancement team is working to develop robust data stores and custom dashboard reporting solutions for our core audience of over 400 Advancement-related staff. In this session we will introduce you to Tableau fundamentals and then talk specifically about the UW Advancement project to integrate dashboard reporting across the enterprise. We will discuss data structure and management (because, I mean, what's more exciting than that?), access and security, customization of the user experience, and most importantly we will demo a few of the applications and dashboards we have developed around Tableau at the UW. There will be time for questions and answers as well. Colleen Skipper Tableau Software Colleen Skipper has been in Sales at Tableau Software for 4 years, working with organizations in all industries - from Health Care to Higher Ed, High Tech to Oil and Gas. She loves helping people and organizations solve problems with data and watching the light-bulb turn on with new discoveries that will drive change. Michael Visaya Director of Software, Data, & Reporting, University of Washington Michael Visaya is the Director of Software, Data, and Reporting for UW Advancement at the University of Washington. Prior to that he managed the Records Management team, and led projects to develop UW Advancement's first online reporting tool and automated list segmenting systems. Michael wears headphones when he works so that he can pretend he didn't hear the phone ring. He is reasonably proficient in SQL, XML, C#, and VB, but is especially solid at FPS and RPG [gamertag=SouthK]. He believes that information systems should bend and conform to the people who use them, not the other way around. When he was young Michael earned a degree in English Literature, but managed to get a job anyway. He also has a Master of Science in Information Management from the UW iSchool. Someday he hopes to learn why the 'i' in iNouns isn't capitalized. Until then he stays busy with various application development, data integration, and information access projects. Go Hawks!
