Exploring Ullswater: Aira Force And Gowbarrow Fell Circular Hike

GHOST of AIRA FORCE, Waterfalls and History in this Wainwright Walk 👉 More LAKE DISTRICT family walks    • Family walks | The Lake District National ...   On this short and interesting walk we start at the National Trust car park. It is a short walk to Aira Force. This is an impressive 60 ft waterfall complete with upper and lower bridges and its own resident ghost, Lady Emma. Working our way through the wood we have a close encounter with High Force and Aira Beck where I accidently test the water before heading out to open ground and working our way on to Gowbarrow Fell. There is a steeper section near the top for around 50 m but the walk is mainly gentle an a good path. This is a Wainwright and also a favourite of Wordsworth. On the way down we can see down to the old hunting lodge of Lyulph's Tower before entering the wood once again and heading back to the car park Lower areas were dense woodland full of red deer hence the hunting lodges and shooting lodges.
