Kampong Wak Hassan was a coastal Malay village situated along Singapore's northern coastline, near present-day Sembawang Park. Established in 1914 by Wak Hassan bin Ali, a former policeman, it began as a coconut grove before evolving into a fishing community. The village was relocated in the late 1920s due to the construction of the British naval base, which extended along the northern coast from Woodlands to Sembawang. Despite the urbanization of the area, Kampong Wak Hassan remained until the late 1990s, making it one of the last kampongs in Singapore to be cleared. The demolition in 1998 marked the end of an era, but the legacy lives on through the remaining sea wall and a short road named Jalan Kampong Wak Hassan, which serves as a poignant reminder of the village's history. Today, the area has transformed into a modern residential neighborhood, but the memories of Kampong Wak Hassan continue to be cherished by former residents and visitors alike.
