Unfortunately I lost some of the footage for this stage when the power went out in my house. See, by default, NGII only keeps ONE save. You have to go into the options and specifically set it to have manual saves. So when the power went out on me I had no way to go back and record the beginning of this Chapter without full restarting the whole game. But you didn't miss much, just the intro cutscene of Ryu swimming through the river and a few small enemy encounters. The save I had to start from was where the chapter got interesting (or rather, more bullshit). We have a lot of enemies firing rockets from afar as you try to get around the water to reach them, and this is a lot harder to deal with in this game when you can't do jump shots. Sigma 2 is a lot more manageable. Also there's less enemies to shoot so it doesn't feel like it takes forever. After the first wave of them, a cut enemy type appears, these floating cyborg enemies that hover over the water and fire missiles at you. They suck because they like to move around so aiming at them is a serious hassle. But water running to them risks you getting blasted in the face. Just all around not fun to fight. By far the biggest change is at 15:14 where we have this mossy cavern section to get through. It just sort of comes out of nowhere and is a little eerie. Especially when you get further in and see something big tunneling through it before a health bar has even appeared. This is a boss that was cut, a giant burrowing worm type enemy. It's awkward to fight and frankly I'm not even sure what the intended process was. I tried hitting it from within the nooks you can hid in but that didn't do much. I tried to Ninpo it head on, but it just auto-burrows out of the way if you try that. I hurt it by landing a UT, but then it just grabbed me right after and slammed into a wall with me. But it was stunned, so then I just started comboing it and that was enough to drain its health. So I guess you're SUPPOSED to get hit? Maybe I could have got it to hit the wall on its own somehow? I'm really not sure. But hey, I got past it. Can definitely see why it was cut, being such an awkward fight. When we come out of the cavern we can see that it's daytime now, which makes more sense here since that fight can take a while. In Sigma 2/Black, you just have an instant time of day transition jumping into the tunnel that led here and then getting spat back out. There's this zombie enemy type with a cannon arm and chainsaw arm that I swear is more tanky here than it is in Sigma 2, which is the reverse of what usually happens. They're so tanky it's like you just want to switch to something with a lot of hits like the Vigoorian Flails to try and delimb them for an OT. I remember them being tanky in Sigma 2 as well, just not THIS tanky. Though it could also just be that there's more of them and that they feel tanky compared to everything else that is far less tanky. Finally we have another boss fight that was cut against 2 flying dragon fiends. It's not a fun fight as it relies heavily on using the bow and aiming to hit them is just not fun to do. Glad it was cut. The more traditional dragon fight in Sigma 2 is way cooler.
