Available NOW on Amazon - Ilford Retro Vol.1 From Gants Hill Odeon to The Plough and Plessey, all 52 episodes with photos of old and new! https://tinyurl.com/IlfordRetro The first primary school to be built in the newly developing Clementswood area in the 1890s was Cleveland Road Schools. Designed by local architect CJ Dawson it was the first in a series of School Board commissions he did in the borough. He designed many in his native Barking including North Street Primary, the design of which he replicated for Cleveland. Caretakers quarters have an adjoining first floor canteen which was used for pupils with packed lunches. Outbuildings and garages have gradually been converted into education spaces since the early 2000s. The playground (both at the front for infants and rear for juniors) has original games markings painted on perimeter walls but the open surfaces have been segmented with play equipment and landscaping in the past 10 years. In 2006 and 2007 a three-storey extension was built beside the Dudley Road entrance to the junior school. This for administration, ICT and library facilities. In 2015 a 'living wall' to improve air quality was added to the extension's western elevation. Sources: Construction: https://www.british-history.ac.uk/vch...
