What is the "Protestant Work Ethic"? Is it Biblical? Where did it come from?

I should have known - this idolatry of "work" tracks back to LUTHER - the one that insisted on GRACE! Can you believe it? He hated the book of James for talking about faith and works - then creates a theology where people's only way to really know if they are Elect - is to WORK! Does anyone else see the irony in that?! How much of our behavior and decisions - and the way we raise our kids - is based on this "Protestant Work Ethic" that has nothing to do with working as unto the Lord - but working to prove you are Elect.
