Braniff International knows South America! You can take an exciting tour across the continent through this amazing Tour of South America tv commercial. This commercial was produced by Braniff's ad agency, Wells, Rich, Greene, of New York City, in 1966. Sixteen days before the 20th Anniversary of the first flight of Braniff International Airways, the Dallas-based carrier inaugurated service from the U. S. Mainland to Cuba, Central, and South America. On this day, Friday, June 4, 1948, a Braniff International Airways Douglas DC-6 inaugurated the Airline's first service to the Central America and the South American Continent. The initial routing was Dallas, Houston; Havana, Cuba; Balboa City, in the Canal Zone and Guayaquil, Ecuador. Additional routes of the original 7719-mile route award were added over the next three years that were awarded by the Civil Aeronautics Board in May 1946. Twelve years after the first Latin America flight Braniff inaugurated pure jet service over an even larger Latin America network and in 19 years the carrier merged with Pan American Grace Airways, making Braniff the largest U. S. carrier operating between the US Mainland and South America. Braniff Airways, Incorporated, Copyright, Text and Video
